Questions

Answers

Are there any calls open?

No. It is anticipated that the 2010 Call will be published in July 2009.

How many Calls will there be?

Not known as yet.

Is there a one-stage or two-stage proposal procedure?

The evaluation shall follow a single stage procedure

Will there be hearings for larger proposals? No hearings are foreseen.
Will third countries be funded through the EC?

International Co-operation Partner Countries (ICPC) will be funded in all cases, while industrialised countries only if indispensable (Cf. FP7 Rules for Participation). The list of eligible ICPC countries is available.

Is there some indication of funding levels for projects?

Yes.

Small or medium-scale focused research projects (Level 1) have a maximum EC contribution of up to 4 million Euros.

Large-scale integrating projects (Level 2) have a minimum EC contribution of 4 million Euros.

What is the difference between a Level 1 and a Level 2 project?

Level 1:

  • Broad in their formulation, problem oriented
  • Mainly common to all modes (generic)
  • Encourage and enable technological synergies and technological transfer between transport modes
  • Proposals may be approached with some degree of flexibility (addressing only part of their content or combining them as required)
  • Mainly CSA and small scale CP
  • Several proposals expected per topic

Level 2:

    • Mission oriented, specific approaches and outcomes
    • Refer to well identified industrial, policy and socio-economic matters.
    • Call specific
    • Mostly specific to just one mode
    • All instruments but predominantly large scale CP
    • Proposals addressing a level 2 topic will cover it in its entirety.
    • Normally just one proposal per topic
What is the difference between an RTD topic and a TREN topic? RTD usually deals with “technological research”, whilst TREN primarily supports “policy research” or demonstrations and pilot-studies.
