Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities (SSH) is the fourth consecutive programme on socio-economic sciences and humanities since 1994The first, ‘Targeted Socio-economic Research Programme’, was part of FP4. Subsequently, socio-economic and humanities research was funded under ‘Improving the Socio-economic Knowledge Base’ in FP5 and ‘Citizens and Governance in a Knowledge-based Society’ in FP6. The SSH Programme is Theme 8 of the FP7 ‘Cooperation’ block.
The budget for the SSH Programme is €610m for the duration of FP7 from 2007 to 2013.
Objective
Funding Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities will contribute to an in-depth, shared understanding of the complex and interrelated socio economic challenges confronting Europe. Research in this theme will help us to study, understand and answer questions related to:
- Growth, employment and competitiveness;
- Social cohesion social, cultural and educational challenges in an enlarged EU;
- Sustainability, environmental challenges, demographic change, migration and integration, quality of life and global interdependence.
What will be funded?
The content of proposals will be based upon one of eight activities:
- Activity 8.1 – Growth, employment and competitiveness in a knowledge society;
- Activity 8.2 – Combining economic, social and environmental objectives in a European perspective – Paths towards sustainable development;
- Activity 8.3 – Major trends in society and their implications;
- Activity 8.4 – Europe in the World;
- Activity 8.5 – The Citizen in the European Union;
- Activity 8.6 – Socio-economic and scientific indicators (no topics in 2010);
- Activity 8.7 – Foresight Activities
